Ownership vs usership.
Welcome to Day 2 of our 30 Day Wardrobe Cleanse. We’ll be spending the next 5 days exploring our mindsets around clothing, starting with today when we introduce the concept of ownership vs usership. This term is used nowadays to highlight the difference between a product owned, used and discarded by the one individual vs a product which has a life of its own, sometimes beyond yours. Consider how liberating it is to ‘look after an item’ only for as long as it makes sense to do so. When it’s no longer of use, you pass it on.
Obviously we’re not promoting a wear-once-and discard approach. We know you don’t do that anyway. But what we’ve all been guilty of is buying something because it’s on sale or has some feature we value, only to find we never wear it again. Then it sits in the back of our wardrobe and some of us :) allow it to beat us up with reminders of our poor decision making. No more!
See you back here tomorrow for as we explore how liberating a shift towards usership can be for us and for the captives in the back of our wardrobes.
